UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS PREPARES FOR 10 DAY SOLAR CAR RACE FROM DALLAS TO CALGARY June 10, 2008 - Based on articles on UTSVTwebsite
The University of Texas Solar Vehicles Team (UTSVT) in Austin continues to work hard at building the "Samsung Solorean," which is a solar car that will compete next month in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge sponsored by Toyota. The Samsung name was added to the vehicle earlier in the year after the company contributed $54,000 to the cause. The ten day race begins July 13 in Dallas and will end July 22 in Calgary, Alberta, covering 2,400 miles. About 30 teams are competing. The solar-powered Samsung Solorean will feature lithium-ion batteries and is working on the first known anti-lock braking system ever to be installed on a solar car. Other entries include teams from UC Berkeley, Durham University, Illinois State University, MIT, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon State and Northwestern University.
