SAN FRANCISCO SOLAR ENERGY NEWS

SFPUC SELECTS RECURRENT ENERGY

FOR PROPOSED PV SYSTEM THAT WOULD

BE THIRD LARGEST IN US

5/16/08 - Based on an article on sfgate.com

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has selected local solar electric firm Recurrent Energy to build the third largest photovoltaic system in the United States, pending approval of the plan by the County Board of Supervisors. If approved, the project could launch as early as mid-2009. The deal won't require the City of San Francisco to invest any capital, as Recurrent Energy will finance, install and operate the system, although the City must commit to buying electricity from the company for 25 years.

The project will generate 5 megawatts of solar power, which is the equivalent of powering about 1000 solar electric homes. The proposed project will include 30,000 PV panels on rooftops at The Sunset Reservoir and Pier 96.

SF COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO

REVIEW LARGEST  RESIDENTIAL SOLAR

REBATE PROGRAM IN US

3/31/08 - Based on an article in the San Francisco Chronicle

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is delaying the launch of what would be the largest residential solar rebate program in the nation offered by a city government, as the San Francisco County Board of Supervisors have introduced a proposal to freeze funding until further review. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is a strong supporter of renewable energy in general. The rebate program would have offered up to $5000 to homeowners who install solar electric panels on their roofs.

The program also calls for $10,000 in rebates to businesses that install solar PV panels. Sun Run, a solar provider launched in 2007, calls the program "GoSolarSF" and projects that the program may double its solar installations. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's goal is 15,000 solar installations by 2010.
