PENNSYLVANIA SOLAR ENERGY NEWS

NEW SOLAR FACILITY COMING TO PHILADELPHIA

June 10, 2008 - Based on 4/29/08 article on PA Farm News

The City of Philadelphia announced on April 29, 2008 that vacant space at the Navy Yard will be used to contruct a new solar facility that will produce enough energy to power 200 homes by early 2009. The City has entered a partnership between Conergy AG's Epuron LLC, a solar energy generator, and Exelon Generation Corp., who will purchase electricity for Exelon for 20 years.  The facility will be constructed with between 6,000 and 8,000 solar panels.

Investment for the project so far has been $12 million. The project will create about 40 construction jobs and 10 permanent jobs. The combination of the Exelon-Eupuron Solar Center at the Navy Yard and the partnership's other facility at Falls Township represents the largest solar PV installation on the East Coast.

The State of Pennsylvania has mandated under the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act that 18% of all energy produced in the state come from advanced sources such as solar by 2021.
