2008 TAOS SOLAR MUSIC FESTIVAL SET FOR JUNE June 11, 2008 - Based on information at www.solarmusicfest.com
The 10th Annual Taos Solar Music Festivalis scheduled for June 27-29 at Kit Carson Park in Downtown Taos, NM. The event is headlined by million-selling alternative rock artist Collective Soul. Other performances will be made by BoDean, Hal Ketchum, Susan Tedeschi and Steve Earle. The three day rain or shine event will have two stages: a main stage featuring the artists mentioned above and a solar stage that will feature up and coming acts such as Pacifika, Michael Hearne, Concepto Tambor, Liz Painter Band, Don Richmond and others. In the past the festival has featured acts such as Los Lobos, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, Shawn Colvin, Los Lonely Boys and Steel Pulse. The concert is only part of the event as over 30 exhibitors will be present. A wide spectrum of solar demonstrations from solar cookers to remote control solar cars for kids will help generate interest in solar in an area called "Solar Village," which will be hosted by the New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA). Solar-powered radio station KTAO will help promote the event, as usual. The event also attracts campers from all over the country.
GERMAN COMPANY TO BUILD SOLAR MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN ALBUQUERQUE June 11, 2008 - Based on 3/3/08 CNET article
Germany-based Schott Solar is building a 200,000 square foot facility in Albuquerque that will be ready to manufacture solar PV modules and receivers by the Spring of 2009. The announcement was made in March 2008 and was immediately applauded by Gov. Bill Richardson. Schott will invest about $100 million in the project with the possibility of five times that amount to be spent in the future in the company decides to expand the facility. The plant will produce components for Concentrated Solar Thermal Power plants (CSPs). Schott Solar is a division of conglomerate Schott AG.
