HAWAII SOLAR ENERGY NEWS HAWAII PASSES BILL TO STANDARDIZE SOLAR WATER HEATERS FOR NEW HOMES
May 1, 2008 The State of Hawaii has passed a bill requiring that solar water heaters be a standardized feature for all new homes by 2010. The bill now goes to Gov. Linda Lingle, who earlier in the year announced a goal for the state for at least 70% renewable energy use in Hawaii by 2030. The solar water heating bill passed with a unanimous vote in the House and a 23-2 vote in the Senate. While the bill discontinues state solar tax credits beginning in 2010, it marks the first time in American history that energy savings would be a requirement for new homes.
