SUNIVA BUILDS ATLANTA SOLAR CELL FACTORY June 12, 2008 - Based on informationt on www.suniva.com
Atlanta-based Suniva, a start-up company that manufactures crystalline silicon solar cells. has announced plans to build its first solar cell factory in the Atlanta metropolitan area of Gwinnett County. The goal of the new facility is to cut costs in PV technology with initial capacity of 32 megawatts on its first line. The company expects the capacity to increase to over 100 megawatts over the next few years. The project will create 100 new jobs in its first year. The announcement comes after Suniva raised $50 million in financing from New Enterprise Associates, Goldman Sachs and Advanced Equities, Inc. Suniva was recently cited as one of Georgia's top ten innovative technology companies by the Technology Association of Georgia. The start-up is headed by CEO John Baumstark and CTO Ajeet Rohatgi of the Georgia Institute of Technology.
