CA AIR RESOURCES BOARD DRAFTS PLAN
TO ENCOURAGE MORE RENEWABLE ENERGY

6/26/08 - Based on press release from CA Air Resources Board website (www.arb.ca.gov)

The California Air Resources Board has announced its plan to reduce the state's greenhouse gas emissions by 30% over the next 12 years. This plan is a follow-through effort of the governor's Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32).

A component of the comprehensive draft plan proposes that utilities produce a third of their energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar and geothermal, and proposes to expand and strengthen existing energy efficiency programs and building and appliance standards that have already saved Californians more than $50 billion over the past 30 years in reduced costs for energy.

Another important point to the draft plan is a cap and trade program covering 85 percent of the state's emissions. This program will be developed in conjunction with the Western Climate Initiative, comprised of seven states and three Canadian provinces, to create a regional carbon market.

Air Resouces Board Chairman Mary Nichols says, "With the release of this draft scoping plan, California is once again blazing a trail to lead other states and the nations and the nation to address climate change. Our economy and our society face no greater threat than global warming. This draft plan is the roadmap to move us quickly to a cleaner, more sustainable future, energy independence and a healthier environment. This plan fulfills the governor's determination to act now, and it is based on the conviction that Californians will rise to the challenge and develop creative solutions to improve our environment and grow our economy."

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON PROJECT WILL INTRODUCE US TO SOLAR "POWER TOWER"

6/03/08 - Based on press release from Southern California Edison's website (www.edison.com)

Southern California Edison has signed a procurement contract with eSolar to build America's first commercial solar project based on "Power Tower" Solar Thermal technology, which has been used in Austrailia, but will be a first for the United States. The project will be constructed in Lancaster, CA (in the Mojave Desert region), Northeast of Los Angeles. This innovative project is expected to launch in 2011, providing 105 megawatts of solar power. Ultimately, the goal is to reach 245 megawatts by 2013.

Power Tower is made up of a series of solar towers and thousands of mirrors. The mirrors reflect light from the sun and directs the light to boil water in a central receiver then steam is routed to a turbine to produce electricity.

Southern California Edison is the top purchaser of solar energy in America. The publicly traded utility company (NYSE: EIX) purchases over 90% of U.S. production, according to its website.

REPORT: NEARLY HALF OF U.S. PATENTS FOR

SOLAR PRODUCED BY CALIFORNIA COMPANIES

5/20/08 - Based on press release from CA Office of the Governor (www.gov.ca.gov)

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has unveiled the Environmental Defense Fund's first ever report called "Innovations Review: Making Green the New Business as Usual," which shows California at the forefront of the alternatvie energy revolution in several categories.

The report reveals that California-based companies represent 44% of all U.S. patents in the solar industry and 37% of U.S. patents in wind and other renewable energy-related business. Furthermore, California represents nearly half of all green-tech investments in the United States. In 2007 venture capitalists invested $1.78 billion in California green tech companies. Since 1990 green tech business in the state has grown by 84% and employment has doubled.

FRITO LAY LAUNCHES LARGEST

SOLAR THERMAL PROJECT IN NORTH AMERICA

4/22/08 - Based on press release from CA Office of the Governor (www.gov.ca.gov)

Frito Lay North America announced completion of the first half of the company's project to install 54,000 square feet of solar thermal technology on five acres of its Modesto manufacturing plant. The second half of the project will be completed in July 2008. The project includes 192 solar panels that will produce enough solar thermal energy to produce 145,000 bags of SunChips per day. Partnering with Frito Lay is the California Energy Commission, which is providing $700,000 for the project.

Last October Firto Lay's Arizona Service Center went solar electric with a 201 kw system featuring Kyocera's solar modules. This milestone created the largest commercial photovoltaic system in Arizona. Frito Lay North America is a division of PepsiCo.

MILLION SOLAR ROOFS PLAN SIGNED

BY GOV. SCHWARZENEGGER

8/21/06 - Based on press release from CA Office of the Governor (www.gov.ca.gov)

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed his "Million Solar Roofs Plan" that he introduced in 2004. The bill, SB1, will provide 3000 megawatts of additional clean energy that will lead to a million solar roofs in teh state by 2018.

This $2.9 billion incentive plan for homeowners and building owners applies to customers of PG&E, Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas & Electric and now municipal-owned utilities such as SMUD.

The plan hopes to reduce output of greenhouse gases by three million tons, which is equivalent to taking one million cars off the road.
